A little history about the War of the Roses.
Two English families fought in the late
15th century to rule the country. The emblem
for the House of Lancaster was a red rose and
the House of York's was a white rose. The red
rose won.

ROSE POEMS:
The Red Rose
As rays of infinite sunlight
upon a wilted Red Rose,
you pierced
my red soft petals with warmth.
As raindrops from misty cool showers,
you refreshened my budding beauty.
As rich fertile soil,
you gave life to my roots.
As a gentle breeze,
you made my green leaves,
reach for the rainbow.
Then suddenly,
without warning,
and as violently,
as a ravishing storm,
you blew away the petals,
leaving only
the thorns...

Someone said that God gave us memory
so that we might have roses in December.
- William Shakespeare

Love's Rose Garden
Love Planted a rose,
And the world turned sweet,
Where the wheatfield blows
Love planted a rose.
Up the mill-wheel's prose
Ran a music beat.
Love planted a rose,
And the world turned sweet.
Katharine Lee Bates
The Rose Tree
A "Lady Banks" rose tree at
Tombstone, Arizona, has a trunk
40 inches thick, stands 9 ft.
high and covers an area of
5,380 sq ft, supported by 68
posts and several thousand
feet of iron piping. These enable
150 people to be seated under the
arbor. The original cutting came
from Scotland in 1884.

To the Garden the World
TO the garden the world anew ascending,
Potent mates, daughters, sons, preluding,
The love, the life of their bodies, meaning and being,
Curious here behold my resurrection after slumber,
The revolving cycles in their wide sweep having brought me again,
Amorous, mature, all beautiful to me, all wondrous,
My limbs and the quivering fire that ever plays through them,
For reasons, most wondrous,
Existing I peer and penetrate still,
Content with the present, content with the past,
By my side or back of me Eve following,
Or in front, and I following her just the same.
Walt Whitman
Give me odorous at sunrise
a garden of beautiful flowers
where I can walk undisturbed.
Walt Whitman
