The Sorrowful Mysteries

Jesus came with them to Gethsemane.
And sadness came over him, and great distress.

Then he siad, 'My soul is sorrowful
to the point of death.
Wait here and keep awake with me.'

Then he withdrew from them,
and knelt down and prayed.

Father if you are willing, take this
cup away from me. Nevertheless, let your
will be done, not mine.'

Then an angel appeared to him. coming from
heaven to give him strenght.

In his anguish he prayed even more earnestly.

And his sweat fell to the ground
like great drops of blood.

Then he cme back to his disciples and
found them sleeping, and he said,
'So you had not the strenght to keep
awake with me one hour?'

'You should be awake, and praying not
to be put to the test.'

The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Glory be to the Father,
the Son and the Holy Spirit.

They had Jesus bound and handed
him over to Pilate. Pilate questioned
him, 'Are you the king of the Jews?'

Jesus replied, 'Mine is not a kingdom
of this world; but yes, I am a king.'

I came into the world for this:
to bear witness
to the truth; and all who are
on the side of truth
listen to my voice.'

'Truth?' said Pilate, 'What is that?';
and with that he went out again
to the Jews and said,
'I find no case against him.'

'So I shall have him flogged
and then let him go.'
Pilate then had Jesus taken
away and scorged.

Despised and rejected by men,
a man of sorrows.

Harshly delt with, he bore it humbly, like a lamb
that is led to the slaughterhouse.

Yes he was pierced through for our faults,
crushed for our sins.

Ours were the sufferings he bore,
ours the sorrows he carried.

On him lies a punishment that brings us peace,
and through his wounds we are healed.

Glory be to the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

The soldiers led him away to the praetorium.
Then they stripped him and dressed him up in purple.

And having twisted some thorns into a crown they put
this on his head and placed a reed in his right hand.

To make fun of him they knelt to him saying,
'Hail, king of the Jews!'

And they spat on him and took the reed
and struck him on the head.

Then Pilate took some water, washed his hands
in front of the crowd and said, 'I am innocent
of this man's blood. It is your concern.

Jesus then came out wearing the crown of
thorns and the purple robe.

'Here is your king,' said Pilte. 'Take him away!'
they said. 'Crucify him!'

'Why, what harm has he done?' But they shouted all the
louder, 'Crucify him!'

'Do you want me to crucify your king?' The chief
priests answered, 'We have no king except Caesar.'

So Pilate, anxious to placate the crowd,
handed him over to be crucified.

Glory be to the Father,
to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.

If anyone wants to be a follower of mine,
let him renounce himself.'

'And take up his cross every day and follow me.'

And carrying his own cross they led him
out to crucify him.

And they seized on a man, Simon from Cyrene,
and made him shoulder the cross
and carry it behind Jesus.

'Shoulder my yoke and learn from me.

'For I am gentle and humble in heart.'

And you will find rest for your souls.
Yes, my yoke is easy and my burden light.

Large numbers of people follwed him,
and of women too,
who mourned and lamented for him.

But Jesus turned to them and said,
'Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me;
weep rather for yourselves and for your children.'

'For if men use the green wood like this,
what will happen when it is dry?'

Glory be to the Father,
to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.

When they reached the
place called The Skull,
they crucified him.

Jesus said, 'Father, forgive them;
they do not know what
they are doing.'

One of the criminals crucified with him said,
'Jesus, remember me when you
come into your kingdom.'

Indeed, I promise you,' he replied
'today you will be
with me in paradise.'

Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother
and the disciple he loved.

Jesus said to his mother,
'Woman, this is your son.'
Then to the disciple he said,
'This is your mother.'

And from that moment the disciple made
a place for her in his home.

And the darkness came over the whole land,
and the earth quaked; and the viel
of the Temple was torn in two.

And Jesus cried out in a loud voice,
'Father, into your hands I commit my spirits.'

An bowing his head he breathed his last.

Glory be to the Father,
to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen

'I tell you most solenmly,
you will be sorrowful
but your sorrow will turn to joy.'

'For I shall see you again,
and your hearts will be full of joy,
and that joy no one shall take from you.'

At the first sign of dawn,
they went to the tomb with the
spices they had prepared.

And all at once the Angel of the Lord,
decending from heaven, came and rolled
away the stone and sat on it.

I know you are looking for Jesus,
who was crucified. He is not here.

'And now he is going before you to Galilee;
it is there you see Him.'

And the women came out from the tomb filled
with awe and great joy.

'I am the resurrection and the life. If anyone
believes in me, even though he dies he will live.'

'And whoever lives and believes in me will never die.'

Jesus took them out as far as the outskirts of Bethany,
and lifting up his hands he blessed them.

He said, 'All authority in heaven and
on earth has been given to me.'

'Go, therefore, make disciples of all the nations.'

Baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit.'

'And teach them to observe all
the commands I gave to you.'

'He who believes and is baptized will be saved.'

'He who does not believe will be condemned.'

'And know that I am with you always;
yes, to the end of time.'

As he said this he was lifted up, and a cloud took
him from their sight.

And so the Lord Jesus was taken up into heaven:
there at the right hand of God he took his place.

When Pentecost day came around,
they had all met in one room.

Suddenly they heard what sounded like a powerful wind
from heaven, the noise of which filled the entire house.

And something appeared to them that seemed like
tongues of fire; these separated and came to rest on
the head of each of them.

They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to
speak about the marvels of God.

Now there were devout men living in Jerusalem
from every nation under heaven.

And Peter stood up with the Eleven
and addresed them in a loud voice.

'Repent and be baptized, and you will receive the gift
of the Holy Spirit.'
And they accepted what he said and were baptized.
That very day about three thousand were added to
their number.

Send forth your Spirit, and they shall be created;
and you shall renew the face of the earth.

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful:
And kindle in them the fire of your love.

Come then, my love, my lovely one, come.'

'For see, winter is past, the rains are over and gone.'
'Show me your face, let me hear your voice;
for your voice is sweet and your face is beautiful.'
And the sanctuary of God in heaven opened.
Then came flashes of lightning and peals of thunder.

Now a great sign appeared in heaven:
A woman, adorned with the sun.

She was standing on the moon, with the twelve stars
on her head for a crown.

With jewels set in gold, and dress in brocades,
the king's daughter is led in to the king.

May you be blessed, my daughter, by God Most High,
beyond all women on earth.

The trust you have shown shall not pass from the memories
of men, but shall ever remind them of the power of God.

You are the glory of Jerusalem! You are the great
pride of Israel! You are the highest honor of our people!

Who is this arising like the dawn, fair as the moon,
resplendent as the sun?

Like the rainbow gleaming against brilliant clouds,
like blossoms in the day of spring.

'I am the rose of Sharon, I am the lily of the valleys.'

'My throne is in a pillar of cloud,
and for eternity I shall remain.'

'Approach me, you who desire me,
and take your fill of my fruits.'

'I am like a vine putting out graceful shoots,
my blossoms are sweeter than honey.'

'And now, my children, listen to me; listen to instruction
and learn to be wise.'

Happy are those who keep my ways,
who day after day watch at my gates.'

'For those who find me find life,
and win favor from the Lords.'
Hail, Queen of mercy, protect us from the enemy,
and receive us at the our of death.

Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee,
blessed are thou among women
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the
Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now,
and ever shall be world without end.
Amen
