Envy and Jealousy The Terrible Disease

Envy and Jealousy The Terrible Disease

Envy and Jealousy The Terrible Disease
Envy is called a passion; and means suffering. Envy is a mysterious and terrible disease. The nerves of sensation within the man are attached by some unseen hand to his neighborhood all around him, so that every step of advancement which they make tears the fibres that lie next his heart. The wretch enjoys a moment's relief when the mystic chord is temporarily slackened by a neighbor's fall; but his agony immediately begins again, for he anticipates another twitch as soon as the fallen is restored to prosperity.
W. Arnot

JEALOUSY

Jealousy
is like a volcano,
you know not when
it will erupt.
When it does,
it transmits
red
hot
lava,
which afflicts
the roots
of
composure,
and devastates
the spirit
of the soul,
along
with
your
sanity...

Envy is an insult to oneself.
- Yevgeny Yevtushenko

Envy

When one envies virtue in others, it is a very good sign that
he has no virtue in himself. This type of person is happiest
when he can express others to his level.

There comes a time in our education when we arrive at the conviction that envy is ignorance; that we must take ourselves for better or worse; that the wide universe is full of good, nothing can come to us but through our toil, that we generate to accomplish what ever our task may be. When we do this, we will find that we do not have time to be envious of anyone and envy that is aimed at us will not affect us. Benevolent people have the advantage over the envious; the envious are tormented not only by all the ills that befall them, but by all the good that happens to everyone eles. Benevolent people are better prepared to bear any calamity because of the serenity they have acquired by contemplating the virtue and prosperity that is all around them. Benevolence is really the antidote for envy. People may envy and dispise you not because they dislike you, but because they're not like you. When we are benevolent and constantly live our lives in accord with our highest sense of right, envy has to turn into admiration. Envy is a kind of praise.

Jealousy is like a polished glass
held to the lips when life is in
doubt; if there be breath it will
catch the damp and show it.
Dryden

Life is an enchantress
Who seduces us with her beauty
But he who knows her wiles
Will flee her enchantment.
Kahlil Gibran

When you tell your troubles to your neighbor
you present him with a part of your heart.
If he possesses a great soul, he thanks you;
if he possesses a small one,
he belittles you.
Kahlil Gibran

"CLINK"

Clasping goblets
filled with wine
from clustered grapes,
we toasted
to another New Year
of love
and cheer,
beloved
dear
old
friends.
Little did I know
then,
that I
was toasting
to the inevitable;
the death
of our
friendship...

REVENGE

Revenge
is an irrevocable invasion
of supernal,
diabolic demand,
segregated,
quarantined,
until
justice
is fulfilled,
and only then
will
the imprisoned
dimensions
of

love
defuse...

WISDOM

You must first
grow intimately familiar
with emotions of
animosity and empathy,
tragedy and fortune,
failure and success,
bliss and sorrow,
before you can erect
a consummate
chaste insight of
wisdom...
